What is a Waiver?

The Waiver is a chargeable electronic tracking certificate that is required for maritime export and import of goods into certain African countries.

Generally, the Waiver is applied for with the corresponding documents when the ship departs from the port of loading. For this purpose, different documents are required by the local authorities to create the country-specific certificate. The names for the individual Waivers are ECTN, CTN, BESC, BSC, ARCCLA, BIETC, ENS, FERI.

Creation of a Waiver

A Waiver must be issued before the goods arrive in the destination area, as this document is necessary for the import and customs clearance or acceptance of the goods.

However, there are exceptions: Some destinations require the waiver number to be transmitted to the shipping company, for example, before the container is loaded onto the ship, otherwise the loading process is stopped.
